Before meeting Angelica Zapata, I wondered what could be offered to my Spanish speaking community that could not be readily found in a book or a YouTube video around Mindfulness for Stress. I have been already aware of the research and best practices to support Latinx families facing the challenges of racism, financial issues, immigration and limited health care access. Mindfulness as well as meditation practices can seem intimidating and almost elusive. Angelica has a genuinely gentle, compassionate and judgement-free way of bringing people along no matter where they start. She successfully creates a safe, comfortable environment for the participants to experience individual and collective healing and manage everyday stresses to improve their health.

One of the goals in the Early Learning and Home Visiting Department at El Centro de La Raza is to promote radical healing, and Mindfulness is a huge part of it. That is why we are lucky to have Angelica Zapata providing Mindfulness training for the Early Learning Home Visiting Department. Angelica is kind, compassionate and understanding as she guides transformational change of self-awareness, connection and care. Angelica’s sessions are diversity-informed, culturally attuned and they make a difference in the work space environment while also reducing turnover in the Department. Gracias Angelica! Angelica provides a calm and peaceful atmosphere to facilitate her classes. Starting a meditation and mindfulness class can be very intimidating for students, especially via zoom. Her relaxing and soothing presence made the class a welcoming environment for students. She is incredibly knowledgeable in her field, and this translates well in her class.
